Outlook 2010 Stuck in Safe Mode

Outlook 2010 would start in safe mode every time.

This was caused by Microsoft patch KB3114409 released in December 2015.

Removal of the patch resolves the problem.

Install Office 2010 ADMX GPO

Best to create a central store (in Sysvol), but must make sure the the contents of the local store are copied to the central store as well as the new Office ADMX files.

Some good instructions can be found in the following two links:

Outlook 2010 Keeps Prompting For Password

Outlook 2010 configured to get email from a Exchange 2007 server was prompting for credentials every time it was 1st opened, even when on the LAN.  This 1st happened after the users domain password was changed.

The problem was found to be cached passwords on a Windows 7 laptop.

To resolve:

Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Your Credentials > Look under Generic Credentials.

Edit: MS.Outlook:username@domainname:PUT and change the password.

There was another entry for the domain that I completely deleted.

Deleting the entry mentioned above may also resolve the problem?  However that was not tested.

Outlook 2010 Autocomplete not working

Outlook autocomplete was not working on a Outlook 2010 installation that used POP email.

In this case it was resolved by wiping the existing autotcomplete cache.

This was done by opening Outlook > select file > select options > select mail > under send messages > click the “Empty Auto-complete List” button > untick “use auto-complete list to suggest names ….” > click ok.

Restart outlook and then turn back on “use auto-complete list to suggest names ….” > click ok.  Restart outlook and test.  A new autotcomplete list should have been created and will start storing addresses used from now on.
